Car slip-up on slipway
It was one of the more unusual call-outs which recovery operator Andy Groombridge had responded to, a car in the sea at Dover Harbour. The car was being used in an attempt to recover an inflatable boat from the water when the accident happened on Tuesday. The vehicle, with a trailer attached to the back of it, was being reversed down the slipway, opposite the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club. But the surface of the slipway leading down to the water's edge was covered in seaweed and very slippery. The vehicle slid down the slipway into the water. The driver was able to close all the windows and get out of the car, which then slid around the bottom of the jetty to the other side. The trailer was completely submerged. Another vehicle was used to recover the trailer, and Mr Groombrldge's recovery vehicle pulled the car up the beach onto a cobbled slipway next to the jetty.
